In 2001, Liam Connellan former President of the RDS produced a report setting out the principles on which a new body would be created. This followed widespread consultation. The fundamental rationale behind the proposal was the bringing together of Equestrian sport and breeding into one body.

WWW.HORSESPORTIRELAND.IESimpson heads Hickstead heroicsIrish continue to deliver in West Sussex, with top-flight ribbons garnered on continentHickstead has been the site of famous victories of some of the best show jumpers, equine and human, Ireland has ever produced and this year, there were successes at the four-star Al Shiraaa Derby meeting in the opening three international classes for Richard Howley, David Simpson and Sen Monaghan on Thursday and Friday. The one they all wanted, of course, was the 64th edition of the Hickstead Derby. Simpson almost joined an illustrious list including Eddie Macken, Capt John Ledingham, inaugural victor Seamus Hayes, Trevor Breen and Peter Charles (in his days representing Ireland) as a multiple winner of the Derby, and with Pjotr Van De Kruishoeve, an even more select grouping inhabited by just William Funnell (GBR), with Cortaflex Mondriaan in 2006, and Dublon in 2024, of completing the Trial and Derby double. They had four faults in the jump-off however, finishing second in a brilliant effort, to William Whitaker and Flaymboyant II.Simpson, a native of Derry who is based a little over 10 miles away from Hickstead in Coolham, was joined on the podium by compatriots Stephan Dubsky and Derek McCoppin, who shared third with Briton Sammie Jo Coffin. There was five-star action in mainland Europe and Denis Lynch posted the standout result when runner-up in the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix in Paris on Saturday. Cian OConnor helped his team, Riyadh Knights finish third in the League competition 24 hours earlier.Elsewhere, Harry Allen won the Grand Prix at the two-star show in Lier, where Daniel Fitzgerald was also victorious earlier in the week.Simpson and Pjotr Van De Kruishoeve got the show on the road in Hickstead with a superb victory in the Agria Derby Trial (main pic and above). A strong contingent of 45 participated and with 19 jumping efforts and a time allowed of just under two minutes, it produced just six clear rounds. Three of the four athletes that opted to return for the jump-off were Irish.Dubsky was the pathfinder in the second round, but when his horse C The Stars (Miriam Rohr) knocked the Derby rails, it gave the others some breathing space. Event rider Alex Bragg (GBR) and Hegglelane Houston were next, and having had a practice at Simpsons replica Derby fences three days earlier, they produced the first of the double clears to take the lead.Simpson matched the clear on the horse he won the 2023 Derby with, knocking almost six seconds off the target with a time of 58.24.Last to go was McCoppin and Capital Levubu (Meredith Dos Santos), but a fence down dropped them to fourth, confirming a second triumph for Simpson in the Derby Trial, 10 years after delivering with Gotti Van Paemel in 2016.Pjotr was just eight when he won the Hickstead Derby, and having not competed in it since, was steered towards Sundays headline class by his owner, notably recording gold and silver medal-winning returns in Hamburg Derby qualifiers. Following up in the Derby Trial at the West Sussex arena confirmed his wellbeing.Hes been in great shape for the last couple of weeks he was unbelievable in Hamburg and in St. Gallen, said Simpson afterwards.Howley brought up Amhrn na bhFiann for the second time by navigating Caprice DElle (ESM Equestrian) to the winners enclosure after the two-phase competition for the Tom Hudson Trophy. The pair went through the speed phase in 34 seconds flat to secure the spoils, and they were joined in the podium positions by Fenor pilot, Commandant Geoff Curran with the Irish Sport Horse DHF Alliance, who finished third in 35.30.Howley is still on a learning curve with Caprice DElle (above) but the early signs are very promising indeed for the pairing. He is a very versatile horse who absolutely loves to go against the clock, said the Enniscrone native of the 14-year-old he bought two weeks ago, after riding him for six months. He really enjoys it as I am sure you could tell by the prize giving! Hes won so much for us already in a short space of time and its great to have him in the stable. On Friday, Sen Monaghan made it a perfect three for Irish equestrians in the international classes at the iconic venue, and it was a memorable and emotional success for the Kilcock athlete. Toyger (Catherine OConnor), who Monaghan bought from Shane Breen and then rode as Ireland finished second in the Longines League of Nations final last October, has endured a number of setbacks since and the Hickstead Masters Trophy was the 14-year-olds return to high-class competition (below).A mammoth start list of 75 combinations took part but it was Monaghan and Toyger who topped the table after the jump-off, ahead of the UAEs Abdullah Mohd Al Marri, with the Irish Sport Horse BBS McGregor, bred in Kilkenny by Marguerite Ryan. Colligan man, Peter Moloney rounded out the top five with Nielson (Lisa Volk), just ahead of Castledermots former Derby winner Mikey Pender, with the Ita Brennan-bred Irish Sport Horse HHS Calais (Bravo Hughes)I knew I had arguably the best horse in the class, and I was last to go, so if everything came right Id say he was going to pull it off, said Monaghan. Hes one of the best horses in the world, hes absolutely phenomenal. Its his first big show since the League of Nations Final last October. Its an emotional win because its been a long wait to get him back on the road. Hes been unlucky with a few little setbacks since October, nothing major, but we wanted to make sure he was fully back and now he feels better than ever, so I am excited for whats ahead of him.The Longines Global Champions Tour moved to its third French venue in as many weeks, this time to the capital, and while the Irish run of victories in the team competition that is the League came to an end after the successes of Max Wachman and Ciaran Nallon, OConnor did ensure a Green Jacket on the podium just a matter of hours after Monaghans win in Hickstead. With the Eiffel Tower in touching distance of the Champ de Mars facility, the Karlswood Stables maestro followed an opening time fault with Kentucky TN (Karlswood Partners) in the 1.60m speed class by going clear (below) with Gospel Tame (Ronnoco Jump/ULC) in the 1.55m equivalent, the latter effort in 72.28 earning fourth place on the individual standings.More importantly, with Olivier Perreau (FRA) having one rail down on Himalaya Du Temple, having gone clear in the first competition with GL Events Dorai DAiguilly, that left the Knights on a total of five faults, enough for third. Were really happy, OConnor declared. The horses jumped great and Olivier rode really well too. My horse was fantastic in the first round and Gospel had to shorten up a bit for the second round because the time was tight, but he handled that really well. To be on the podium and get Riyadh Knights up there, were certainly very happy. Its important to make a plan, but there are so many good combinations and so much competition. We came here wanting to go well this week, so it was great when it worked out. To come away with a podium and some strong championship points is very positive for the team. The Irish highlight of the show, however, was the Cordial showcasing his enduring class with a runner-up finish in Saturdays LGCT Grand Prix, with Lynch (below left) in the irons. The 17-year-old stallion owned by Onyx Consulting and Tipperarys Finest excelled with a double clear under his experienced pilot, and the duo were among six of the 41 original participants to return for the decider. And Cordial showed that he has plenty of gears under the bonnet, as well as scope, going clear again in 39.89 seconds. That saw off the partnerships of GL Events Dorai DAiguilly (third) and Christian Ahlmann (GER), with Untouched LB (fourth), two of the others to be foot-perfect over the obstacles. There could be no denying Max Khner (AUT) and his Mark Sherry-bred 15-year-old EIC Up Too Jacco Blue, however, the pair streaking clear in 38.36 to capture the 101,838 first prize, though 61,720 was significant consolation for Lynch and Cordials connections.Khner moves to second in the overall standings, with Mikey Pender the leading Irish athlete in seventh, just ahead of OConnor. Lynch remains in contention for the end-of-season finale in 16th.Attentions returned to the other side of the English Channel on Sunday, as Simpson chased history as part of a really strong Irish challenge. Ballymoney, Co Wexford athlete Dubsky held the lead a long while with C The Stars, a pairing that took fourth in the Deutches Derby in Hamburg, as the only combination with four faults as the course claimed victim after victim. Eventually, they were joined by Longfords McCoppin and Capital Levubu, and Coffin with the Brian OMalley-bred and co-owned Chaccomo Blue (ISH).Simpson and the horse he knows as Freddie removed those from the equation with a faultless round, though there was a nervous moment with a rub of a pole in the Devils Dyke. They would be joined immediately by William Whitaker, himself a winner 10 years ago, and looking to add to his familys 10 previous triumphs. Whats more, the English rider and Flamboyant II had been beaten in jump-offs in the last two renewals. They had a touch of fortune too but again, score card remained unblemished. It was the Ulsterman that was first to return with his 11-year-old stallion, who is naturally faster than Flamboyant. They injected some speed to proceedings but did not escape the Devils Dyke on this occasion, knocking the middle part of the triple, after a tight turn. It was the first time the horse had knocked a jump on the course. Simpson could not hide his disappointment, dropping his head to his right hand.Whitaker and Flamboyant finally shed their bridesmaid status with an unerring jumping display to deny the 2023 victors. But Simpson was proud of his partners endeavours and looking forward to the future with what is still a very young horse at this level.Pjotr loves it here at Hickstead, and I was delighted with how he was today, he stated. His next target is to come back here in July for the Nations Cup and the Grand Prix. Thats the good thing about him, he can do Derbies, he can do five-star Grands Prix. Im very lucky to have him.On Sunday, Allen and Lukaku Vd Bisschop (Aloga Stables) justified their status as favourites for the concluding Grand Prix at the Azelhof arena. The Germany-based Enniscorthy athlete and his 15-year-old bay stallion topped a field of 59 by going quickest in a 10-strong jump-off, stopping the timers in 39.32 seconds in the 1.45m class. On Thursday, Kilcullen athlete Fitzgerald and another Aloga Stables charte, Deparino B, were the fastest of eight double clears in the 1.45m jump-off class with a time of 35.45.BREEDINGDHF ALLIANCE (ISH) 2015 Mare by Ard Vdl Douglas (KWPN) out of Rosie Bee (ISH) by Lux Z (HANN). Ireland sixth at Longines League of Nations third leg in RotterdamIreland finished sixth in the third leg of the Longines League of Nations this afternoon in Rotterdam.Jessica Kuertens team of Michael Duffy, Niamh McEvoy, Jordan Coyle and Shane Sweetnam totalled 24 faults after two rounds of competitive jumping, with Great Britain taking top honours following a three-way jump-off. The United States of America were runners-up, while Switzerland filled the podium in third. The Irish were well positioned at the halfway stage of proceedings on just four faults after clear rounds for Coyle and Sweetnam, but the team couldnt replicate those efforts in round two and slipped from third position to sixth. The result means Ireland remain in third place in the standings, all but assured of a place in the Barcelona final with one leg remaining at Gassin St Tropez to come in September.Horse Sport Ireland High Performance Jumping Manager, Kuerten, said: Everyone tried their best in Rotterdam today, and we had great performances from Jordan and Shane.Duffy was first in for the Green Jackets with Mr Qerly Z, who produced a solid round of jumping all round, with just a pole at the first of the double dropping as Ireland began with four faults.22-year-old Niamh McEvoy, on just her second Longines League of Nations appearance, was next in withe BP Rocket Man (ISH) who unfortnately dropped a couple of poles for eight faults.Coyle steadied the ship for Ireland just when it was needed, keeping the team on a score of four faults through three combinations after a magnificent clear with Chaccolino with Sweetnam to come as anchor.World number six Sweetnam was unflappable with Coriaan van Klapscheut Z, the up-and-coming 10-year-old gelding, as they delivered a second clear round for Ireland to go into the break just one pole off joint leaders The Netherlands and Switzerland.Perhaps surprisingly, of the ten nations who lined up, it was the top two in the standings coming into Rotterdam, Germany and France, who were eliminated, opening the door for Ireland two climb into the top two spots from third. With the format of the Longines League of Nations meaning just three combinations jump in round two it was Duffy, Coyle and Sweetnam coming back for a second time, with all scores counting. That format proved costly almost instantly as Duffy had an unfortunate 12 faults with Mr Qerly Z as Ireland slipped to sixth position before Coyle produced another solid effort for four faults with Chaccolino.Sweetnam and Coriaan van Klapscheut Z rounded out the the afternoon with just one pole falling for four faults as Ireland finished on 24.The post Ireland sixth at Longines League of Nations third leg in Rotterdam appeared first on .0 Reacties 0 aandelen 169 Views

WWW.HORSESPORTIRELAND.IEDore delight at Hagen Grand Prix winJack Dore rounded off an excellent Pony campaign to date in Hagen, Germany at the weekend by winning the Grand Prix with K-Little Hero.Fresh from helping the Irish team to a runner-up finish in the Nations Cup having jumped double clear, Dore and the pony owned by his father Carl repeated the feat to come home top of the pile on Sunday afternoon.Dore and K-Little Hero were one of 11 combinations to compete in Sundays jump-off having jumped clear, including compatriot Robbie Sheehan with Pjotr van de Groeunheuvel.Jack Dore after winning the Grand Prix in Hagen with K-Little HeroThe pair were magnificent in the jump-off, going clear and stopping the clock in 41.22 seconds, over a second faster than runner-up Viggo Bergstrand from Sweden, on the Irish Sport Horse Corbeagh Legend. It was a deserved win for the Limerick teenager, and he said: I was very happy to win the Hagen Grand Prix because its a tough one to win.I dont have my pony too long really, I only got him late last year but we clicked together the minute I rode him, which helps a lot. Hes very good and I was delighted to have jumped double clear in the Nations Cup and the Grand Prix. The post Dore delight at Hagen Grand Prix win appeared first on .0 Reacties 0 aandelen 157 Views

WWW.HORSESPORTIRELAND.IENallons sizzling St Tropez doubleSeven international wins for Green Jackets on memorable weekCiaran Nallon (main picture with the soaring Casilla Blue PS and below on the victory podium) had what was surely one of the most lucrative shows of his nascent career with two five-star victories at the Longines Global Champions Tour leg in Ramatuelle, St Tropez last week. The first of those triumphs, on Thursday, came on a day when Cian OConnor and Daniel Coyle also secured elite successes. In all, there were seven international victories at two-star 1.45m or higher, and with a four-star Nations Cup win too in Sopot under the stewardship of Taylor Vard, and Jessica Krtens five-star squad fighting back for a bronze medal in La Baule, it was truly a green-letter week for Irish show jumping.Nallon kicked it off on a tremendous Thursday for Irish riders, by supplying two clear rounds in contribution to his team, Riesenbeck International getting over the line in the Longines Global Champions League.Coming just a week after Max Wachmans League heroics for New York in nearby Cannes, the young Mayo pilot combined with German Christian Kukuk to secure the top spot.Nallon and Casilla Blue take the plaudits from an appreciative Ramatuelle audience after contributing two clear rounds as Riesenbeck International won the Longines Global Champions League leg in St TropezNallon and Casalla Blue PS (Beerbaum Stables) have been producing some excellent results on LGCT all year and they secured a silver medal in the opening 1.60m speed class before supplying another clear round in the 1.55m speed class to finish sixth.Kukuks triumph on Checker 47 helped vault them to the summit of the table, as that duos eight faults in the opening class had left them in fourth. And Kukuk was quick to praise his partner for keeping them in the mix.Even after the first round, I had a good feeling, said Kukuk. Ciaran had a really, really great round and, to be honest, I was also happy with my round despite the two down because Checker felt very good.Ciaran did a great round again (in the second class). His performance was outstanding today with Casalla.Around about the same time, and also in France, Cian OConnor and Genghis Khan (Coolmore Showjumping) came out on top of a thrilling jump-off when denying home supporters, and most specifically, Kevin Staut by the razor-thin margin of four-hundredths of a second in a 1.50m speed class at La Baule.OConnor and his talented 10-year-old (above) revelled under the blue sky at the Franois Andr Stadium and having left all the obstacles intact, stopped the clock in 59.57, which would prove just enough to see off Staut, with Felin De Hus HDC.There was something for the French to be happy about however, as the victorious horse was returning to the land of his birthIt always gives you confidence to win a major class on the first day of a show, said OConnor. Ive been coming to La Baule for many years, and its always a pleasure.Genghis Khan is a French-bred horse, and its fantastic for his breeders to see him return to France and, even better, to see him win here.Coyle completed a stupendous few hours at the highest level for Irish athletes, by taking the top two places at Spruce Meadows. His former mentor and long-time friend, Conor Swail placed a cherry on top by completing a clean sweep. The Recon Metal Cup served as the weeks key qualifying competition for Saturdays RBC Grand Prix of Canada, presented by Rolex, drawing 46 athletes to the International Ring.Riders stepped through the iconic Clock Tower to face the 605m track, featuring 13 obstacles (16 efforts), and a time allowed of 91 seconds in what was a 1.55m class at the famed Calgary arena.Only 12 combinations answered every question asked of the course and advanced to the jump-off but it was Coyle who dominated winning with Farrel (Ariel Grange), stopping the timers in 38.63 in the tiebreaker to cement victory. The pair (above) actually fell behind the target early on but a couple of very tight turns helped make up ground after falling behind early on. In the end, he also claimed the silver ribbon with Farrels Lothlorien Farm stablemate Urville Z, clocking 39.47.Swail also had two horses in the jump-off. Theo 160 (Mannon Farms) knocked the penultimate obstacle in pursuit of the time to be seventh but the Down man was last in with Clonterm Obolensky (Oliver Glancy), the Irish Sport Horse bred in Co Meath by Brian Duff. They were two-tenths in front at the first checkpoint but the tight turns executed by Coyle and his 16-year-old were uncatchable.Spruce Meadows is great, said the Derry native. You come here for the four tournaments and you stay in one place, which we dont get to do much. The horses can grow every week and you can jump a bigger class or a smaller class depending how your week is going so its a really big thing in our schedule.Earlier on, Swail had introduced his two-star winning machine Kazelli VDL to five-star company and he looked very comfortable indeed, jumping to second in the Francis Family Cup 1.50m behind Jos Verlooy and Parise Van Den Dael.Nallon added to the five-star tally for Irish athletes, which he achieved in Ramatuelle on Friday with Megalon K (Beerbaum Stables). It was a sensational display by the pair (above) to win the 1.50m jump-off class with a definitive time of 34.77 when recording their second clear, for it looked as if Katrin Eckermann (GER) and Iron Dames Cascajall NRW had done enough with their standard of 34.90.If I hadnt been watching Katrins round I dont think Id have taken the risk! Nallon said afterwards in relation to a turnback executed by the German that had spectators gasping in the stands.Taking the win yesterday, and again today I think under the south of France sun might just be our lucky charm. On Saturday, Coyle and Farrel would return to the Spruce Meadows podium but not for the first time in recent weeks, it was a bit bittersweet to be a bronze medallist in the RBC Grand Prix of Canada, presented by Rolex, with by some distance the quickest time of 41.99 in the jump-off of just six combinations. One rub of a pole cost them first prize in the International Ring but it was still an excellent show once more from the deadly duo.The same day, Shane Sweetnam and Pia Maria H (Seabrook/Sweetnam) were fifth in a 1.50m jump-off class, while OConnor and Bertram Allen (were fourth and fifth in Sundays Grand Prix, riding Chatolinue PS and Qonquest De Rigo respectively.Billy Twomey left Sopot with the major pot on Sunday, partnering his own Ace of Hearts Z to glory in the four-star Grand Prix at the Polish venue. The duo (above) had provided the clear round as anchors, that secured a jump-off spot for Ireland in the Nations Cup a couple of days earlier, and with Alex Butler and Max Wachman also contributing significantly, it was left to Shane Breen and Scarteen to bring it home against the clock. On Sunday, Twomey and Ace of Hearts completed a memorable double. The technical course asked many questions, that for many, went unanswered but the Cork veteran and his ten-year-old stallion were well up to the task, posting two blemish-free rounds, the second in a time of 41.62 that was a second quicker than that recorded by runner-up, Roberto Previtali (ITA) with Quirinus 27.Eoin McMahon was a silver medallist in Sentower Parks four-star Grand Prix the same day. The Cratloe pilot and Disney Z (Baekgaarden Youngster) were agonisingly close in the Oakland Arena, but victory eluded him in Oudsbergen by two-tenths of a second. The pair jumped a brilliant double clear in the 1.60m class, and 42.58 earned them 21,100, with the overall honours going to Brazils Yuri Mansur, with Mister Jup (42.38).His fellow Clare native, Philip McGuane bagged a second international success in as many weeks, following up last weeks four-star triumph with a two-star victory in the 1.45m Welcome Takes at HITS Saugerties. The New Yorkers might have been anticipating the conclusion of a 53-year famine to become NBA champions but McGuane has been much more prolific of late and he guided Paso Doble SCF (Evergate Stables) to top spot thanks to a jump-off time of 40.29 in the Douglas Elliman GP Stadium on Friday night (above). She is a very good jumper, a clear round machine, said McGuane of the 11-year-old mare. I was just going for a nice, smooth, jump-off round with her. A lot of people had the skinny down, so I just made sure I jumped that well, and the rest turned great.Jordan Coyle made it a good week the Ardmore clan, as the elder sibling cantered to an easy success in the two-star Grand Prix in Peelbergen on Saturday, just a couple of days after Daniels 1-2 at Spruce Meadows..The US-based athlete enjoyed going Dutch with Cordiamo (Elan Farm) absolutely blitzing the opposition in the 1.45m jump-off in the Van Mossel Arena. A dozen combinations resumed for the tiebreaker but this was a one-sided affair, as Coyle and his 10-year-old set a time of 39.19 that was more than two and a half seconds quicker than the mark recorded by runners-up Enno Klaphake (GER) and Chacvarlon PS.Jordan Coyle and Cordiamo stand to attention as one of seven international class winners at two-star 1.45m and higher for the Irish last weekBREEDINGCLONTERM OBOLENSKY (ISH) 2016 stallion by Cornet Obolensky (BWP) out of She Has The Lux (ISH) by Lux Z (HANN). WWW.HORSESPORTIRELAND.IEAll roads lead to the Europeans after Irish Youths impress at Future Champions Nations Cup show in HagenThe countdown to the FEI Jumping Youth European Championships has now begun in earnest after a very successful week at the Future Champions show in Hagen, Germany that concluded at the weekend.Irelands youth athletes returned from Hagen with a hat-trick of podium finishes as well as individual standout performances, much to the delight of Horse Sport Ireland High Performance Youth Jumping Manager Denis Flannelly.Flannelly oversaw three team podium finishes, which included a remarkable comeback for the Young Rider team to finish third, and a pair of silver medals for the Pony and Children on Horses teams. This was the final shown in a series of competitions that will help inform Flannelly and his selection committee choose the combinations and squads at the two championships that will take place in Hagen, Germany that commence on July 19th and run for the week, then Le Mans, France the following week.He said: It has been an excellent campaign to date, with many podium finishes in Nations Cups across all of the age categories. We have competed at Sentower, Compiegne, Zuidwolde and at the weekend in Hagen. It is very important to give these young athletes the opportunity to experience being part of a team and to perform in the Cup format. They need to experience what its like to be a team member and play their part on that team as well as dealing with the associated pressure and of course feel the camaraderie that only a Nations Cup can give. There is no better way to prepare for the European Championships, which is the ultimate Nations Cup, than fielding teams in the FEI European Nations Cup Series.Weve had many amazing results over the course of the series to date a lot of which has come from new combinations and young athletes competing for their country for the very first time. We have been very pleased with the progress made over the last number of months. As Flannelly says, there is no substitute for the pressure that Nations Cup format jumping brings and while the Irish squads had an incredibly successful 2025, he was keen for new combinations to stake a claim to be part of the championships in Hagen next month.Obviously last summer was incredible, adds Flannely. We came home with numerous medals in various categories and our young athletes developed greatly from being part of the championships.Within the programme, one of our main goals is to develop a pathway to the senior level of our sport. We must always be looking forward and continue to strive for great things year-on-year.Our Horse Sport Ireland Youth Jumping Programme gives athletes the opportunity to develop and compete at the highest level amongst their peers in Europe, and so many of these athletes have gone on to the top of our sport.Because of the fact our youth athletes have had the experience of competing at various Nations Cup shows around Europe, the step up to senior level showjumping becomes easier. That is something we must always remain focused on.Looking back at Hagen last weekend, Flannelly was particularly pleased with the character shown by Irelands young athletes. To give an example, Irelands Young Rider team looked very much out of contention for a medal at the halfway point in their Nations Cup after finishing round one on a score of 26 faults yet recovered to finish in third place on a final tally of 27, with just one time fault picked up in round two.Flannellys philosophy of meeting as a team before, during and after competing bore fruit.Flannelly adds: That took guts and character, as well as the talent all four riders obviously have in the saddle. They would have been forgiven for going through the motions at that stage of the competition, licked their wounds and come back to fight another day but they were having none of that and it was so impressive to see.Obviously our Pony and Children on Horses teams were also brilliant. Both teams are the youngest Irish international athletes competing and both performed admirably to finish on the podium in the silver medal position. The conditioning of young people at that level to deal with the pressures associated will serve them well as they develop and continue through the programme into Junior and Young Rider categories. This is all part of the pathway to senior level. We are so proud of all our athletes who competed in Hagen and through the Nations Cup Series. Now we enthusiastically look forward to the challenges that lay ahead at the Europeans in July. The post All roads lead to the Europeans after Irish Youths impress at Future Champions Nations Cup show in Hagen appeared first on .0 Reacties 0 aandelen 152 Views

WWW.HORSESPORTIRELAND.IEDouble podium for Irelands jumpers with win in Sopot and podium in La BauleIrelands senior jumpers enjoyed a magnificent European afternoon on the double, landing a four-star Nations Cup win and a five-star podium finish. With the action taking place concurrently in Poland and France, the Irish first won in Sopot as Taylor Vards team were successful in the Nations Cup of Poland before Jessica Kurtens team staged a magnificent comeback to finish third in the Barriere Nations Cup at La Baule.Vard was first up with a team of Shane Breen, Alexander Butler, Max Wachman and Billy Twomey proving too strong for Argentina in a jump-off, with Breen and Scarteen sealing the deal. After two rounds of jumping, Ireland finished on a score of 8 faults, level with the South Americans. Japan conmpleted the podium.Wachman produced a double clear performance on Fancy De Kergane, with clears from Butler with Ti Amo Z, and Twomey under pressure with Ace Of Hearts Z as Irelands anchor, before Breen held his nerve to seal the win in the jump-off.Shane Breen and Scarteen sealed the deal for Ireland in the jump-off to win the Nations Cup of PolandVard said: I always knew we had a great chance but halfway through the second round I was starting to think wed be lucky to finish on the podium but our last two riders, Max and Billy, were just incredible. We never gave up, and then Shane went in and won it for us. Congratulations too to Argentina and Japan too, it was a great fight from start to finish but Im just delighted for our riders, horses, their owners and grooms. In La Baule, it turned into a game of two halves as Ireland were eighth of the 10 nations after round one, yet the mistakes had looked rectifiable, with Kenny, OConnor and Sweetnam only having four faults each and Allen a time fault. That was put right in no uncertain terms after the break, however, with Kenny and Eddy Blue, Allen and Qonquest De Rigo and OConnor with Chatouline PS all jumping clear rounds, meaning Sweetnams services were not required as Irelands anchor with James Kann Cruz (ISH).One by one, the errors crept in from the opposition, with Ireland climbing the standings to finish third behind winners France and runners-up Germany. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Cian O'Connor (@cianoconnor_official)Horse Sport Ireland High Performance Manager, Kurten, said: Today was a very important event in La Baule as many countries brought extremely strong teams to measure where they are, looking ahead to the World Championships in Aachen. We started slowly in round one with concentration mistakes, which cost us a lot. Round two, however, was on point and where we should be. A podium is always good and the third place today showed us that while we are not there yet, we are moving very much in the right direction, so I finish the day feeling positive. The post Double podium for Irelands jumpers with win in Sopot and podium in La Baule appeared first on .0 Reacties 0 aandelen 217 Views

WWW.HORSESPORTIRELAND.IEStallions in Focus Boleybawn AlvaroHorse Sport Ireland is delighted to name the newly Approved stallion Boleybawn Alvaro as Stallion of the Month for Edition 5 of the HSI Breeding Newsletter.Bred by Co Wicklows Ronan Rothwell, Boleybawn Alvaro is by Dominator 2000 Z (ZANG) out of Arina (KWPN) mare by Crown Z (ZANG).His dam, Arina, is a prolific dam of performance horses in her own right. Among her offspring so far are Boleybawn Actor (ISH) by Ars Vivendi (HOLST) who competed in the 5-Year-Old class at the 2016 FEI WBFSH Jumping World Breeding Championship for Young Horses in Lanaken, Belgium with Darragh Ryan (IRL). He has since gone on to compete at 1.45m internationally with Germanys Johanna Zander-Keil, with whom he featured as part of the third placed German team at the Young Riders Nations Cup in Dielsdorf Zurich (SUI) in 2023. The combination has also placed with at 1.50m nationally in Germany.Boleybawn Aasha (ISH) by Dignified vant Zorgvliet (BWP) is also out of Arina, and this mare has had great success for Norwegian rider Mira Olivia Hoeidal. Together they have taken Top 10 placings at 1.50m level including the Grand Prix of the CSIO3* NC EEF in Drammen (NOR) 2022, the Grand Prix of the of the CSIO3* NC EEF in Uggerhalne (DEN) 2022 and a Top 10 in the 1.55m Table A Two Phase class at the CSI5*W in Oslo (NOR). They also represented Norway at the 2021 European Young Rider Showjumping Championships in Vilamoura, Portugal in 2021 and have placings at 1.60m level.Arina is also the dam of Boleybawn Cooley (ISH) by Dignified vant Zorgvliet (BWP), who competed at 1.45m level with Charlotte Jacobs (USA), Boleybawn Alexa (ISH) by Grandorado TN who competed in the 2025 FEI WBFSH Jumping World Breeding Championship for Young Horses with Harry Wood (GBR) as part of the Ballypatrick team. Arina is also the dam of Global Karina (ISH) by Kannan (KWPN) who competed at Mondial Du Lion, the FEI WBFSH Eventing World Breeding Championship for Young Horses in 2023 and 2024 in the 6- and 7-year-old categories respectfully with Yasmin Olsson Payne (NOR).Boleybawn Alvaro himself can now add his victory in the Reitsport.ch Youngster Grand Prix at the 2026 CSIO5* in St Gallen (SUI) to his already successful international career as a young horse. Speaking with Horse Sport Ireland, Alvaros breeder Ronan Rothwell had the following to say: We decided to keep Alvaro as a stallion, as first of all we always felt that the pedigree was up to the standard to consider keeping him entire. His dam is from the mother line of Ratina Z and she has produced so many good sport horses that have competed from 1.40m right up to 1.60m level. Also her offspring have qualified for the Young Horse Championships in Dublin on 15 occasions, which I think is a remarkable achievement.Alvaro was born a beautiful type and when he was a young horse, he was, to me, the perfect specimen of a modern show jumper. His qualities: he possesses more all-around qualities than any other stallion that I know of on the circuit. From his mental attitude, his rideability, his canter, his technique, his suppleness, his carefulness, his scope, and his all-around will and want to compete and win. Hes been heavily exposed since he was a young horse, from being presented at the Horse Sport Ireland Stallion Selections as a four-year-old where he was Preliminary Approved, and later that year competed in the four-year-old championships in Dublin, placing third in the five-year-old championships at the RDS, reserve champion at the World Young Horses Championships in Lanaken, champion six-year-old at the RDS, placing fifth in the Seven-Year-Old World Championships at Lanaken, and now having just won the 7-& 8-Year-Old Championships at the five-star show in St Gallen in Switzerland.Boleybawn Alvaro presented at the Horse Sport Ireland Stallion Selections in 2022 where he passed Stage 1 and Stage 2 over the course of the two day event earning him is initial Preliminary Approved status with the Irish Sport Horse Studbook. At the inspection, the inspection panel had the following to say: Boleybawn Alvaro is a very attractive, modern sport horse. He has a very active, free walk with good use of his body. His trot is light, well balanced and covers ground. His canter shows impulsion, lightness, roundness with good balance. He is light off the floor with a good bascule and open with his haunches. He has excellent reflexes. His technique is good for his age and shows easy scope. This horse is very well produced and has superb rideability. In 2023, Irish team rider Niamh McEvoy took over the ride on Alvaro and the pair qualified for the 5-Year-Old Class at the RDS Dublin Horse Show in their first competitive outing together. They went on then to compete in both Championship qualifiers and the final without having a single pole down over the course of the week. They took 3rd place overall in the final and were named as part of the Team Ireland Equestrian Young Horse Squad who travelled to compete in Lanaken, Belgium in their first international foray together. There, they finished second overall to be Reserve Champion of the 5-Year-Old World Championship.Boleybawn Alvaro and his connections receiving his prize at the Dublin Horse ShowIn 2024, the returned to the hallowed Ballsbridge Arena in the RDS where they were yet again foot perfect all week and took the win in the 6-Year-Old Championship. They returned to Lanakens world famous Zangersheide Stud once again contest the FEI WBFSH Jumping World Breeding Championship for Young Horses where the pairing fiished second in the second of the two Championship qualifiers. As a seven-year-old in 2025, Boleybawn Alvaro again appeared at Lanaken, making it a hat-trick of Championship appearances. He jumped double clear in the first 1.40m 7-Year-Old qualifier and took an 8th place finish in the second qualifier, a 1.40m Table A Speed. This was all capped off then on Finals Day when a single pole down in the jump off earned them a 5th place finish in the 7-Year-Old Championship. Over the course of three years, and eight rounds of jumping, McEvoy and Alvaro knocked only two poles in their appearances in Lanaken. An exceptional achievement. Speaking about the stallion, Niamh McEvoy had this to say: Ive been lucky enough to ride Alvaro since he was a 5-year-old and hes always been a real favourite in my string!Alvaro has proven himself time and time again, from winning medals in Lanaken, to winning the 6-Year-Old championship in Dublin, to more recently winning the 7- & 8-year-old final at the CSIO5* show in St Gallen. He has really demonstrated that he is a horse for the highest level of the sport. He is a stallion of outstanding character and quality, and combines talent, athleticism and an exceptional temperament. Alvaro is definitely one of the most consistent horses Ive ridden and I really believe he has a huge future in the sport!Ronan Rothwell, understandably a proud breeder continued by saying:For me when I breed a mare Im always looking for the natural traits in the stallion that I match her with so I find that the traits that are maybe not so visible, the traits that are hidden under the bonnet are the most important and can be hardest to identify for a breeder. I think with Alvaro its very easy for everybody to see that his concentration in the ring and his will to leave the poles in the cups and take on his courses is exceptional. I do believe that this will be a key to him breeding some very good horses in the future. When I watch him jump his courses and I review the videos, especially in slow motion, its really special to see how easily he can bend his body around the jumps and how supple he is all the way through his body and his legs. He can just use himself the way most horses cant.Im delighted to have been the breeder of Boleybawn Alvaro and its been a joy to watch him go through all the different stages in life. Were very lucky to be able to collaborate on ownership with Greg Broderick and his career has been managed to perfection by the team at Bally Patrick since he was a five-year-old.Were very lucky in Ireland to have some exceptional producers in the country because when we have the raw material like Alvaro, they cant fulfil their true potential unless a very professional and talented approach is taken and executed.Horse Sport Ireland would like to congratulate Ronan Rothwell, Niamh McEvoy and all the team at Ballypatrick for the success of Boleybawn Alvaro thus far and we wish them every success with the stallion as he continues his career internationally. The post Stallions in Focus Boleybawn Alvaro appeared first on .0 Reacties 0 aandelen 203 Views
