By combining classroom-based lessons with trips to regional equestrian facilities, DHPs innovative programs instill valuable life skills to help prepare students to become successful adults.Ciara was rst introduced to horses while serving as a Peace Corps Youth Development Volunteer in Central America. Getting to know about horses came from necessity for travel to transport brigades to remote villages for medical and other basic needs such as food and water. Necessity quickly turned into building a unique bond with horses, as they also provided therapeutic solace at times when feeling alone or frustrated with constant changes that are inevitable with community development activities. Upon returning to the United States and later utilizing horses as a part of a leadership training through the Detroit Revitalization Fellowship, Ciara was reignited to the deep bond between horses and humans.Throughout her career, Ciara has utilized her diverse career experience to broaden non-prot programs for under-resourced communities. Founded in 2015 as a tax exempt, charitable non-prot organization, Detroit Horse Power has brought nearly 1,000 Detroit youths to partner equestrian facilities outside the city for free summer horse camps and after school programs. This Fall, Detroit Horse Power will break ground on what will become the largest equestrian center in the country. Ciara is playing a key role in forging a pathway and creating access to the equestrian community for urban youth. He is known to be broke to ride and has excellent ground manners, but his overall training history is unknown. Due to his advanced age, Swiss is seeking a companion only retirement home at this time. While in Susquehanna SPCAs care, Swiss has been working on getting back to a healthy weight and is enjoying his time relaxing while he does so. Feta is broke to ride, but her overall training history is unknown. Due to her advanced age and an injury she is working on healing, Feta is seeking a companion only retirement home at this time. She has great ground manners and is very mellow overall. Feta tends to be the boss mare in her herd.
