Allen gets on the board at two-star level in BelgiumThere were five-star wins at the Longines Global Champions Tour of Vienna for two Irish riders in the past few days, as Tom Wachman, with Do It Easy (Coolmore Showjumping), and Ciarn Nallon, with Little Special In Red M (Beerbaum Stables), prevailed over elite fields.Tom Wachman and Do It Easy bagged another top-flight triumph when winning the first individual speed class of the Longines Global Champions League team event on Friday (below).The 21-year-old from Goolds Cross, who is the No 4 ranked U25 athlete in the world, won silver team and individual medals at the European Young Rider Championships with the 13-year-old gelding this year.In the past, the duo have enjoyed five-star success in Rome, London and Dublin and they added Vienna to their list of conquered capital cities when proving accurate and fastest in the 1.60m competition.Philipp Weishaupt (GER), with Oreo D.R., had held the lead a long while as the third pairing into the arena, setting a target of clear in 73.97 that proved beyond combination after combination.It looked like it might be enough to secure ultimate honours until the arrival of Wachman and Do It Easy, as the third-last duo to have a go. Do It Easy lived up to his name, displaying that wonderful athleticism as he glided around the half-kilometre track, taking out tenths without any apparent effort.Apart from one little rub, which did not dislodge a pole, he was foot-perfect over the 15 jumps from a dozen obstacles, and with the man on his back guiding him expertly, they took more than a second off Weishaupts mark, clocking a lightning 72.93 for a commanding triumph.The pair would conclude the week with an eighth-place return from the LGCT Grand Prix of Vienna on Sunday, qualifying for the jump-off with another opening round clear but perhaps the exertions of the week took their toll and they had two rails down in the tiebreaker.Ciaran Nallon continued his prolific run on the Longines Global Champions Tour, bagging the 1.45m two-phase class on Saturday afternoon with Little Special In Red M (above), their time of 26.18 in the speed section, more than a second ahead of the 27.23 recorded by Sanne Thijssen (NED), with Os le Petit Cheval.It was a stunning effort by Nallon and especially his chestnut mare, who is only eight but showed a clean pair of heels to a much more experienced opposition.Nallon has made a huge impression this term and the Ballymacredmond man followed up this 1.45m victory with a fifth placed finish in the nights second five-star class, the 1.50m jump-off competition, with Christians Carado (Beerbaum Stables).There was five-star action in Greenwich too, as the Major League Show Jumping series moved to Greenwich Polo Club in New York State.On Friday, Jordan Coyle was a silver medallist with speed merchant For Gold, though their clear in 66.36 was absolutely no match for the staggering 63.8 clocked by Richard Vogel (GER) and Quizas Van T Hulsbos.Coyles brother, Daniel was fourth on 70.24 with Calippo 57 (Ariel Grange), who was navigated to a victory and runner-up return from the two previous weeks of international action by his Ardmore pilot.That was the first element of the MLSJ team competition and the elder Coyles Rainmakers team finished third, thanks to his medal round clear with For Gold.Daniel concluded with silver medal in the valuable team competition, as Castlemagner-raised Shane Sweetnam and Pia Maria H provided two clear rounds. There was disappointment, however, as the younger Coyle and Calippo 57 posted the fastest time in the medal jump-off but knocked a rail to add three seconds to their time under the format.It was Sweetnams fellow Corkman, Simon McCarthy who led the Green Jackets in the five-star Grand Prix of Greenwich on Saturday. The Cork rider and Igor GPH (Liston & Victoria Johnson) did brilliantly to jump clear as the very first duo into the ring. That said, this was a feat managed by only five other pairings.They had two rails down in the jump-off but fifth place was still a fantastic effort in the $340,000 class.On Saturday, Bertram Allen and Next Cornet (Omar Mir) were winners of a tight two-star speed class at Sentower Park in Oudsbergen, Belgium.The Enniscorthy native and his eight-year-old grey gelding were electric over the 1.45m course, clearing the 14 jumping efforts in a time of 65.09 seconds, which was 0.32 faster than Pieter Clemens (BEL) with the 10-year-old mare Gambas de lOcean.At the Longines League Of Nations in St Tropez-Gassin, Shane Breen took the second spot on the podium in Fridays three-star Grand Prix Qualifier with Breen Equestrians Scarteen.The 1.45m speed class involving 79 participants, was won by Frances Julien Epaillard with the nine-year-old Hacker dAuge, who stopped the clock in 61.10.Scarteen and his Cashel pilot were unable to match that target but their clear round in 63.82 was five-hundredths of a second quicker than the time of Jos Verlooy (BEL) with Parise van den Dael.The post Wachman and Nallon waltz to wins in Vienna appeared first on .
