Irish riders and young horses continued to make their mark at the FEI WBFSH Jumping World Breeding Championships for Young Horses in Lanaken, Belgium, with a series of strong performances in todays consolation classes ahead of tomorrows World Championship finals.Ireland enjoyed a particularly successful morning in the five-year-old consolation, where three Irish combinations finished on a perfect score of zero penalties, with Alpha SRC and Eddie Moloney, Pablo TG and Tara Glynn, and Derona HS Z and Chloe Fagan all completing the 1.20m track clear.The class was run under Table A rules without the clock deciding the placings, meaning the 57 combinations who completed the course without jumping or time penalties were all recorded on the same score.Among the Irish clear rounds, Alpha SRC (ISH) and Eddie Moloney were particularly notable, with the 2021 gelding by Corporal VDL out of Tosh C, by Pacino, having been selected as part of the Team Ireland five-year-old squad for Lanaken. Alpha SRC was bred by Ciara Woods in Co Monaghan and is owned by Kilcreene Enterprises.Also producing a clear round was Pablo TG (ISH) with Tara Glynn. The Emerald vant Ruytershof gelding, bred by Noel Glynn in Co Clare and owned by his rider, was also named on the Team Ireland five-year-old squad for the championships.The third Irish combination on the winning score was Chloe Fagan with Derona HS Z, adding another Irish clear to an impressive collection of performances across the three age categories.There were further Irish clear rounds in the five-year-old consolation, while Joshua James Lynch and Cal Bos Rock Princess (ISH) completed the class with four faults. The combination had also been selected for the Team Ireland five-year-old squad, with the 2021 mare bred by Carmel Lynch in Co Cavan and owned by Stephen Lowry. Alisha Vard and Romai, one of the nominated five-year-old wildcard combinations, also finished on four faults.In the six-year-old consolation, Taylor Peare and BP Indianna (ISH) produced one of the leading Irish performances of the day, finishing fifth after a foot-perfect clear round in a time of 57.66 seconds.The 2020 mare, by Mylord Carthago out of Babel by Diamant de Semilly, was bred by GBBS International Ltd in Co Tipperary and is owned by Liam Nichols and Catherine Burke. BP Indianna was named among the Team Ireland six-year-old selections by Young Horse Squad Chef dEquipe Taylor Vard ahead of the championships.Harold Megahey also delivered a clear round in the six-year-old consolation, finishing 27th in the tightly packed results, while Stephen Gibbons and Umbrillio van het Kapelhof, a nominated six-year-old wildcard combination, completed the class with four faults.There was another top-ten Irish finish in the seven-year-old consolation, where Jessica Burke and Rials Varinjo jumped clear in 61.11 seconds to finish eighth.Rials Varinjo, a 2019 gelding by Farinjo des Mec out of a mare by Casco, is owned by Ballyward Estates and was one of the seven-year-old wildcard combinations nominated for the Irish team at Lanaken.There were further Irish clear rounds in the class, with David Simpson and Ocean finishing on four faults after a time of 62.90 seconds. Simpson and Ocean had already produced one of the performances of the championships on Friday when they won the second qualifying round for seven-year-olds, beating a field of 190 combinations in the 1.40m speed class.Also in the seven-year-old consolation, Daniel McAlinden and Orlando VZ finished on four faults, while Sophie Richards and Top Gun VD Bisschop completed their round with four faults. Both Orlando VZ and Top Gun VD Bisschop were among the seven-year-old wildcard combinations named in the original Irish squad announcement. Lauren Adams and Coconut BW and Richard Howley with Emoraldi-Terma Z each finished on eight faults.Todays consolation classes provided another opportunity for Irish combinations to gain valuable experience in the Zangersheide arenas ahead of Sundays World Championship finals.Ireland has already enjoyed a series of standout performances at this years championships, including Lauren Adams and Playboy ASJs victory in the opening six-year-old qualifier, Niamh McEvoy and Doris V Zs second-place finish in Fridays second six-year-old qualifier, and David Simpson and Oceans victory in the second seven-year-old qualifier.The World Championship finals take place tomorrow, with the five-year-olds jumping at 8.30am, the six-year-olds at 12.15pm and the seven-year-olds at 3.15pm local time.The Irish Studbook teams and wildcard combinations have been supported at the championships by Horse Sport Ireland, with participation funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine under National Breeding Services.The post Irish combinations shine in Lanaken consolations ahead of World Championship finals appeared first on .
