A busy day in Mullingar brought the final of the DAFM Studbook Series to an exciting conclusion. There were over sixty entries in both the 5- & 6-year-old classes, and just shy of forty 7-year-olds to round out the series. Of these entries, 24 five year olds, 20 six year olds and 22 seven year olds were all in contention after they qualified for the final day. The DAFM Studbook Series is funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine, under National Breeding Services.5 Year OldsIn the running for the 5-Year-Old League title was last years winner, Robyn Moran. Robyn went one better this season, claiming the 5-Year-Old League for the second year in a row, with her own gelding, Fortside Exhibition (ISH), bred by Margaret Bergin. It was a successful day for the Moran family, with her father Brian receiving the 5YO Leading Groom. This was the fist jump-off for the five year olds in this series, heating up the competition. Eoin Brennan partnering Michael Brennans Rule the World (ISH) placed first on the day. Finishing in second place in the league, and taking home the Young Rider Prize, was European silver medallist Coen Williams aboard GLC Mr President (ISH). Again, this was the six-year-olds first time to jump-off. After a highly competitive class, Liam OMeara partnered his own Maxi JJ (ISH) to victory following a fast jump-off, earning second place in the overall league standings and first place on the day. With 10 points awarded to the winner, there was everything to play for with opportunity for many riders to climb the overall standings. It was last years leading young rider, Max Foley, who ultimately claimed victory aboard Marion Hughes HHS Lexington (ISH), after competing in the majority of the legs across the series. The pair enjoyed a standout performance, securing not only the class win but also the Leading Rider title. It was a memorable day for the Hughes family, with HHS Lexington (ISH) also earning the Leading Owner and Leading Breeder awards. Finishing second in the league was Coen Williams aboard Paula Williams homebred mare, Parc Violeta (ISH). The result also saw Coen complete a clean sweep of the Leading Young Rider award, claiming the prize for the third time on Saturday.
