Linear Profiling Training Day
The Linear Profiling Training Day held at Gurten College, on Friday 24th July, proved to be an outstanding success with 100% of feedback received saying it either fully met or exceeded expectations. This day was funded by the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine under the Equine Technical Support Fund and delivered by Horse Sport Ireland. Our speakers on the day were Irish Draught and Irish Sport horse inspectors Philip Scott, Andrew Gardiner, JP Rogan and our head movement speaker was Brendan Doyle. Our inspectors led the morning classroom session with Head of Breeding, Innovation and Development, Dr Sonja Egan, where participants received information packs and a brief outline of the profiling process. The practical sessions began with an Irish Sport Pony, which was profiled entirely from conformation, loose movement and through the loose jumping lane. The trainers explained each trait of the profile on the animal for conformation and movement, while Brendan Doyle spoke about how to correctly take the pony through the loose movement section, both from a welfare perspective and to aid the horse. The mother and daughter Irish Cob duo were then assessed side by side to compare the requirements for class one and class two. Attendees found it beneficial to be shown how selective breeding can improve the herd as the dam was class two and the daughter was class one.The attendees then had a chance to assess an Irish Draught and an Irish Sport Horse in full themselves from conformation through to jump while a second Irish Draught was assessed for conformation and an Irish sport Horse and Irish Sport Pony were assessed though the jumping section only. Attendees had the opportunity to assess all these animals and ask questions throughout each process. We would like to thank all the owners who brought their animals to the training day for practical demonstrations, to our speakers for explaining the linear profiling process so well and to Gurteen college and our attendees without whom the day would not be possible. The post Linear Profiling Training Day appeared first on .
