HSI launches 2025 DAFM Studbook Series for Eventing with new league format
Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) has launched the 2025 DAFM Studbook Series for Eventing in a new league format. The league will cover all age/height-appropriate Eventing Ireland-affiliated events nationwide from June 22nd to September 21st and the DAFM Studbook Series League is generously supported with a total prize fund over 40,000 by the Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine (DAFM) under National Breeding Services. The 2025 series will be open to all young horses provided they are studbook registered with a breed recorded. Horses with/without a recorded pedigree but with the breed listed UNK are not eligible to participate or be in receipt of any prize funds. This league represents an opportune production series for young horses targeted toward a career in eventing, and participation for Irish studbooks in the World Breeding Federations for Sport Horses (WBFSH) young horse jumping Championships at Le Lion dAngers. In this series riders, breeders, owners and grooms will be rewarded for breeding and production decisions through several league-based prizes. There will be a prize fund of over 40,000 available at the culmination of the league. Breeder and groom prizes will be awarded for leading performance in each category in the league results. There will also be a prize for the breeder of the top mare and recognition and support for leading young riders in the form of league prizes.Sonja Egan, PhD, Head of Breeding Innovation and Development commented on the launch: I am delighted to launch the DAFM Studbook Series for Eventing in a novel league format. Horse Sport Ireland and Eventing Ireland recognised that the former format of the Studbook Series was not well supported, and weather disruptions frequently impacted specific event dates. We have collaborated to develop this league to enable broader participation of young horses, athletes, owners, breeders and event holders to benefit from the value of the National Breeding Services fund provided by the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine. League standings will be compiled by EquiRatings and available in the Eventing Ireland stats centre after each event. This is another value add for eventing stakeholders and indeed those abroad who are interested in tracking these young horses performance against their peers.Ireland is globally recognised as a leader in the breeding and production of event horses. This league seeks to continue to ensure that production opportunities exist nationally to support the age-appropriate development of young event horses in Ireland. We are very much looking forward to getting the league underway and wish all participants the very best of luckPlease seeDAFM Eventing Studbook Series League terms and conditionsfor more information on league eligibility, terms and conditions.Horse Sport Ireland manages the league applications, which are available HERE.Entry to the specific event and class are taken through Eventing Ireland as normal. The post HSI launches 2025 DAFM Studbook Series for Eventing with new league format appeared first on Horse Sport Ireland.

Tried & Tested: WeatherBeeta Sweet Itch Shield Combo Neck Fly Rug
Kate has two horses, Sophy and Milly, who she competes in eventing and dressage respectively. Kate is also a member of the local riding club and shares her passion for horses with her mum.Product: WeatherBeeta Sweet Itch Shield Combo Neck Fly RugSize & Colour: 6ft6 White/BlueDate of review: 19th June 2025What were your first impressions? My initial impressions of this rug was how great the coverage was it covered my horse from her head to tail as it is designed with an ear hood, adjustable belly flap and full wrap tail flap. The neck has multiple Velcro straps which ensures maximum protection and the rug is made from a 600 denier ripstop outer which feels durable but also breathable. I felt confident that Minnie would not be able to easily rip or damage this rug, and that would survive the test of time! How was the sizing & fit?Minnie usually wears a 6ft6 and this rug is true to size. I really like the side gussets which allows her plenty of freedom in the shoulder area to move naturally and graze. The lined shoulders are a great design as well as it reduces the chances of any rubbing or friction. Being a thoroughbred, Minnie has a delicate, thin coat so to me it is highly important that any potential culprit areas that may rub her hair out have ways to reduce the chances of this happening. I feel that WeatherBeeta have very much considered comfort for the horse as it also has a wither relief pad which is great for when Minnie was wearing this rug for long periods of time. How did you test the product?Minnie wore this rug overnight in the field it reflected the afternoon and evening sun off her and so gave her protection from harmful UV rays. It was also very good at keeping the flies and any insects at bay I thought the belly flap really helped with this. The fastenings on the rug can be adjusted so I could fit it securely to Minnies body type. What was your favourite feature? My favourite feature is the ear hood as it helps to keep the rug securely in place and ensured that my horse was consistently covered. In the past I have used other rugs that do not have this feature and I have found that the hood will often slip back or move however this was not an issue whilst using this rug.Any other comments? The WeatherBeeta Sweet Itch Shield Combo Neck Fly Rug is a must for anyone who has a sensitive horse and is looking for a fly rug with maximum coverage! WeatherBeeta have proven once again that their rugs are top of the range and well worth investing in.Shop The WeatherBeeta Sweet Itch Shield Combo Neck Fly Rug White/Blue TodayTried & Tested: WeatherBeeta Sweet Itch Shield Combo Neck Fly RugFind Kates tried and tested review of the WeatherBeeta Sweet Itch Shield Combo Neck Fly Rug White/Blue Tried & Tested: Redpost Biotin ExtraClaire has struggled maintaining her horse Stans mane growth and strength and was recommended Redpost Biotin Extra to try.
