A herd of donkeys visited The Green Howards Museum in Richmond last week to show their support for theAnimal Allies:Discover the Silent Partners of the Armed Forcesexhibition which explores the contributions animals have made in military operations, not just in active duty but by providing companionship, comfort and emotional support.The team of six standard sized and one miniature Mediterranean donkey,who were from Long Ears Donkey Centre near Hartlepool, made plenty of friends as they met members of the public in Richmond square last Friday (30 May).The donkeys visit further supported a key part of the exhibition, a cascade of purple poppies commemorating the roles played by animals and birds in war.The Donkey Breed Society were originally gifted the crocheted poppies by a group of makers from Richmond. They experienced much horror and yet their contributions have assisted in giving us the democracy we enjoy today.
