This girth promises a miraculous level of comfort and my flat-backed cob goes really well in it

Can a girth really be as good as it sounds for less than 70? Its description on the Wintec website promises a miraculous level of comfort for your horse, with innovative CAIR cushions in the centre to alleviate pressure on the sternum. There are also a whole host of other features that make it sound amazing and I couldnt wait to give it a try.Given that my gypsy cob Pippin is a round barrel and has a fair amount of natural padding already, I wasnt sure if I would notice the difference compared to the leather anatomical girth that I had been using. Alas, it quickly became apparently that yes I would and Pips would be very happy with her new belt too.First impressionsMy first impressions of the Wintec Miracle girth after unwrapping it were very good. It is soft, flexible and feels very lightweight. The material (which is described as being anti-galling) has a texture which is waffle like. The buckles and straps are nicely finished, and the girth is very soft and padded. It gave me the overall impression that it would be comfortable to put on and use.FitThe first time I put it on my mare, I found that the Wintec Miracle girth came up slightly longer when compared to my old girth. I think this is due to it being slightly padded (due to its CAIR air system) and so when I tightened it up it was one hole higher on my saddle straps. As a flat-backed cob, Pips has no girth groove at all and no withers either. She is like a table! So I was a little concerned that my saddle would slip back and move when I got on. However, it didnt and we did an eight-mile hack on the first day of wearing it with any concerns.Even though the girth got covered in mud and debris (after cantering across a field which I thought wouldnt be quite as wet as it was!), it didnt budge at all while I was riding. Other than a mud tide mark when removing it, the girth has not rubbed either. Pips is fully clipped and white, and I find that her pink skin can sometimes be sensitive, so she has been a good tester for the Wintec Miracle girth.NIKON D90 f/4.5 1/200s 28mm ISO200PerformanceIve been putting this girth through its paces for just over a month and it still looks brand new. Despite me throwing all sorts of tasks at it, its not let me down. As yet Ive not gone back to using my old girth and I probably wont. Pips seems super comfortable with its fit and hasnt pulled any faces at me when Im doing it up. It is super easy to wash and dry (big points for me given how wet and muddy it has been in the UK recently) and my saddle didnt even slip while arena eventing or riding 10m canter circles. This is no mean feat on a flat-backed, round barrel of a cob!The Wintec Miracle girth is the first synthetic girth Ive used for a while. I really like the fact that during the past month and after all the Somerset mud, ice and winter weather it is so easy to hose off and looks as good as new.One wipe and a jet with the hose and youre done. All that aside, the most important thing is that Pips feels comfortable and has gone well in it. Ive also not had a single saddle slippage.NIKON D90 f/9 1/200s 28mm ISO200Final thoughtsOverall, I think this is a very nicely finished girth that is light and comfortable for the horse to wear. It has no seams on it to rub the horses sides and it is very comfortable to handle, adjust and use. The finish is very good and it hasnt shown any signs of wear so far.Key informationSizes: Short and long lengths availableShort: 50 cm, 55 cm, 60 cm, 65 cm, 70 cm, 75 cm, 80 cm, 85 cm, 90 cm, 95 cm, 100 cm.Long: 90 cm, 95 cm, 100 cm, 105 cm, 110 cm, 115 cm, 120 cm, 125 cm, 130 cm, 135 cm, 140 cm, 145 cm, 150 cm, 155 cm.Colours: black or brownRRP 69.99Where to buyFind out more about Wintecs range of girths, including the new Miracle girth, hereFind a stockist hereRelated contentLooking for a new girth?
