Philippa Skelton and Brian Boru III proved the pair to beat in the Aspen Cooling BE80 Championships at Chillington Hall last weekend, leading the competition from start to finish on their dressage score of 30.4.The result was even more special as this was Philippas last competition with the 19-year-old British-bred gelding, who is owned by Jane and Julie Glynn.He has been an absolute superstar. Ive been competing him for nearly 10 years and hes brought so much joy to so many people. I feel incredibly lucky to have been a part of it, said Philippa.This is the last time Im ever going to compete him, so Im feeling a bit sad, but he certainly did this to prove a point! Jane and Julie bought him as a fun hacking pony and we just realised he was absolutely mega. To finish like this is incredibly special.Exceeding expectationsAfter being bought as a fun hacking pony, Brian Boru III went on to enjoy a successful eventing career with Philippa. The pair secured qualification to these championships after winning Bicton International last autumn.Clare Chappelhow piloted IBN Sushi into the runner-up spot on 30.8 while Hazel Harris and Borstal Bull occupied third on 31.9.The team competition was won by The Marches Mares trio of Alice Sandiford riding The Grey Dancer, Marianne Evans on Ballyell Josie, and Alicia Balfour with Beechfort Gem.Incredibly proudWere incredibly proud to have hosted the Aspen Cooling BE80 Championships at Chillington for a second year, said event organiser Vicky Plant from Plant A Fence Events. Theres something very special about seeing riders who have worked hard all season to qualify come here and enjoy competing in a championship setting.Congratulations to our new champions and to everyone who took part, and a huge thank you to our team, officials, volunteers, British Eventing and Aspen Cooling for helping us make the weekend such a success.Prize money was awarded to all those finishing in the top 10, while rosettes and prizes were presented to the top 15.Of course, huge congratulations go to Philippa and Brian Boru on becoming our 2026 Aspen Cooling BE80 Champions, but I hope every competitor leaves Chillington feeling proud of what they have achieved.
