An equine charity which cares for 32 horses and ponies could lose its base because the land and stabling it rents near Stoodleigh in mid Devon has been sold. The loss ofHealing Hooves Devonsbase could affect not only dozens of rescued horses and ponies, but also the vulnerable children and young people who take part in the charitysequine-assisted learning and outreachprogrammes.The charity, which was founded by Lucy Culverhouse in 2017, is desperately searching for a long-term rental property in the Devon or Exmoor area to be able to continue its work.Twelve miniature horses, 13 ponies and seven horses currently reside at the charity. Residents include Moomin, who has dwarfism, and others with complex medical needs. Uncertain futureTheir welfare is our absolute priority but without finding a new base, the future of the horses and our community work is uncertain, said Lucy, who carries out most of the day-to-day work herself, with the help of some loyal volunteers.We need a practical farm setting, with 35 to 60 acres, some farm buildings where established herds can be together when they need to be indoors, a few stables for horses who prefer their own company and living accommodation, as I need to be on site around the clock.But, despite weeks of searching, and sending direct appeals to landowners, agents and local organisations, we have not managed to secure a suitable long-term base.
