A riding school owner has shared how her blind horse has flourished in the show ring, and how their special relationship allows him continue the work he loves despite his lack of sight.Kidderminster-based Megan Share has owned her 15-year-old appaloosa gelding Milo (Desired Edition) since he was three.When Milo was 12 he lost his left eye to uveitis and then the vision in his remaining eye deteriorated, to the point where vets said he could no longer see.Megan took each day as it came, and said Milo coped really well with his changed circumstances.He lives out 24/7 and Megan makes sure she keeps everything in the same place for him, like the water trough, so he knows what to expect.When they first returned to shows she originally planned to just take him to the event and see how he copes with travelling and coming on and off the box. Milo took everything in his stride and it became clear he still felt comfortable being ridden as well, and even seemed more confident under saddle.Milo has been with Megan since he was three I did think Id never be able to compete again and that would be the end of his career, but hes just surprised us and is coping really well, Megan told Your Horse. We thought he might deteriorate but hes thriving.Megan said the judges are quite taken aback when they realise that Milo is blind, and they cant believe how well he copes.The pair have had great success at Royal Windsor and qualified for the Royal International Horse Show.Megan now has high hopes for Milo, and is aiming to qualify for HOYS and the London International Horse Show, although her main goal to simply keep him happy.He amazes me every day, she added.
