Could your horse be a cover star? The National Equine Forum (NEF) is inviting members of the public to submit photos of equines for the chance to feature on the cover of the #NEF27 programme.Open to amateur photographers, the competition celebrates the art of photography in capturing the character, presence and beauty of horses, ponies, donkeys and mules.Entries can feature the whole animal, a creative headshot or a close-up of a distinctive feature. Images may also include the animals surroundings. The only restriction is that no identifiable people may appear in the image.Entrants can also choose to have their image entered into the British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA) 2027 calendar competition. From the calendar winners, the judge will select an overall Best in Show who will receive a luxury hamper.Depth of talentOur cover image has become an important part of NEF, said NEF Honorary Publicity Officer Sarah Shephard. Each year we receive an extraordinary collection of images that reflect not only technical and artistic skills but also a genuine understanding of the horse. The competition is a wonderful reminder of the depth of talent within the equestrian community and choosing a single winner is never easy.Past winnersLast years winning image wasEllie Taylors photo of her ex-racehorse Robbie and her friends Appaloosa mare Tilly grazing harmoniously together in a field (see main image). The previous year, Amy Newtons portrait of a rescued Shetland pony called Arthur was selected for the programme cover.
