Entries will remain open until August 15, and well expect a full field for this marquee event in Stamford, United Kingdom closer to the closing date.Mia Farley and Phelps. Photo by Tilly Berendt.Will Faudree excused himself from consideration for Paris as an alternate so that he could fully focus on Burghley with Mamas Magic Way, who was second in the Tryon CCI4*-L this spring after re-routing from Kentucky and has also finished 16th at Burghley in 2023.Most eventing fans were introduced by storm to Irelands Lucy Latta, who delivered a seriously impressive second-place finish at Badminton with RCA Patron Saint in their CCI5* debut. In a nail-biting climax, which saw Team GB in the lead as they headed into the final round of riders in the showjumping team final at Paris 2024, Britains Scott Brash and Jefferson pulled off the perfect round under the incredible pressure, securing coveted gold for the British squad.In a thrilling highlight to the equestrian Olympics action so far, Scott was last to go of all the combinations, and managed to finish with just one time penalty, ahead of the silver medal winning team, USA, followed by France who secured bronze.All three British riders in Paris, Scott, Harry Charles and Ben Maher left the fences on the challenging 1.65m course intact, with just two time penalties in total for the team.This is only the third time that Britain has won the Olympic team showjumping title, their first victory in Helsinki in 1952 and the last on home ground in London in 2012, when Scott and Ben were also on the team, as well as Harrys father, Peter.Ben and Dallas Vegas Batilly were first to go for Team GB and performed an impressive round with just one time penalty. They were the only combination of the first round to leave all the fences up, so Britain led as compatriot Harry Charles entered the Versailles arena for the second round of riders.Cool and calm Harry did not disappoint with Romeo 88 and allowed Britain to hold onto its lead with his faultless clear and no time penalties.Scott entered the arena last of the day, as nations jumped in reverse order of merit in the final round, with the USA and France hot on his heels. Just one fence down would have dropped the team into silver medal position.Eleven-year-old mare Dallas Vegas Batilly was a last minute switch for Ben from Explosion W, his individual gold medal winning ride from the Tokyo 2020 Games three years ago, in a swap which clearly paid off.Meanwhile 25-year-old Harry was recovering from a recent fracture to his wrist, and it was touch and go if he would be able to compete at the Games. Thankfully he recovered just in time.Silver for USA and bronze for host nationTeam USA, consisting of Laura Kraut and Baloutineue, Karl Cook and Caracole de la Roque, and McClain Ward and Ilex, completed the finals with just four faults between them. France followed with Simon Delestre and I Amelusina R 51, Olivier Perreau and Dorai DAiguilly, and Julien Epaillard and Dubai du Cedre.The French finished on the same score as The Netherlands, but the hosts claimed the third step of the podium when their combined times were 0.57 seconds faster than the Dutch.The showjumping action at the Paris 2024 Olympics continues on Monday (5 August) with the individual qualifier, with the individual final and medal decider the following day (Tuesday 6 August).Between now and then will be the dressage championships, the Grand Prix Special tomorrow (3 August), followed by the Freestyle on Sunday (4 August). There was disappointment for the Underwriting Exchange Irish Show Jumping at the Palace of Versailles today in Paris, as they had to settle for a seventh place finish. After an unprecedented season of success that had produced 11 Nations Cup podium results from combinations selected by Horse Sport Irelands High Performance Show Jumping Director Michael Blake, including a couple of five-star triumphs in Florida and Aachen, hopes were high that an historic first team show jumping medal was in reach. After qualifying comfortably for the final yesterday, a testing 1.65m course over 525m was welcomed by Blake and his squad of riders, Shane Sweetnam, Daniel Coyle and Cian OConnor but despite a second stunning clear round by Coyle and his 14-year-old mare Legacy, it wasnt to be. Victory went to Great Britain on just two time penalties, with USA taking silver and hosts France the bronze medal. Not our day, []
